Instead of lsusb, could you check dmesg output on Linux?  I'm not sure
it will make a difference, but dmesg shows us what happens when the
device is connected, even if it failed to fully enumerate.

Yes, it certainly sounds similar.

The issue in the previous thread was to do with the power supply on
the board (taking the 5V USB and dropping it to the voltage used by
the microcontroller).  It sounds as though you have a similar problem.

If you let me know (off list if you prefer) where you bought it, we'll
see what can be done to solve the problem.
