Special Notice

April 22, 2012

In 1980, Mr. Ted Vaill helped establish the AAC's Arkel Erb Memorial
Collection at the Malibu Branch of the LA County Library system. The AAC
helped have the 3,000+ volume collection put up on the Library's
Inter-Library Loan Service. This collection includes rare volumes, some of
which are first editions worth more than $5,000. On April 22, 2012 at
11:00am, the Malibu Library will be reopened after an extensive year-long
renovation, with the Arkel Erb Collection prominently featured. Ted will be
in attendance, and all AAC members are invited.

Arkel Erb was an AAC member who was killed in 1978 while falling 6,000 feet
with his three climbing companions on Dunagiri in the Indian Himalaya. His
widow, Ruth Erb, donated the books to the AAC, and they are on
semi-permanent loan to the LA County Library.

I hope you can join Mr. Vaill and myself for this wonderful re-opening at
the Malibu Library on April 22nd at 11:00AM..
