Morris Jeff Community School Celebrates 2025 Graduate Byron Spriggs, Recipient of Prestigious Startup Scholars Scholarship
New Orleans, LA — Morris Jeff Community School is proud to announce that Byron “Brennen” Spriggs, a member of the graduating Class of 2025, has been awarded the prestigious Startup Scholars Scholarship from San Francisco Bay University (SFBU). This honor recognizes exceptional students committed to innovation, leadership, and academic excellence. The Startup Scholars Scholarship is one of the most comprehensive scholarships offered by SFBU. Spriggs will receive: 100% tuition coverage for four years, full living expenses, $400 per month for groceries and meals, a new laptop, and a $10,000 investment toward a passion project related to computer science, business, or another SFBU program.
Spriggs will use this funding to launch his project, R.E.O (Resources to Employment & Opportunities)—an AI-powered platform designed to connect job seekers to local employment opportunities and essential support services such as food banks and shelters. His goal is to harness technology to promote economic equity and community empowerment.
“When I found out I received the scholarship, I was so happy. This year has been especially tough, and I wasn’t sure what would come next,” said Spriggs. “But now, I feel hopeful again. I’ve worked hard, and this is the opportunity I needed to keep moving forward without the burden of debt.”
Patricia Perkins, Head of School at Morris Jeff Community School, shared her pride in Spriggs’s accomplishment: “Brennen truly embodies what it means to be a relentless learner. As an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme student and a dedicated College Track New Orleans member, he consistently pushed himself to grow academically and personally. His vision to use technology as a force for community uplift reflects the very impact we hope all Morris Jeff graduates make as thoughtful, compassionate global citizens.”
Spriggs selected SFBU for its strong academic programs, financial support, and diverse community. “SFBU stood out as a place where I could grow academically while connecting with people from different cultures,” he shared.
