New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy

ONLY ORLEANS AREA PUBLIC SCHOOL AWARDED 

                                     LDOE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY HONOREE

     The Louisiana Department of Education named New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA) a Physical Activity Honoree, one of only six Louisiana public schools and the only one in Orleans Parish to receive the designation, announced Principal Alexis Long.
     According to LDOE, the School Physical Activity Award is given to recognize outstanding public elementary and secondary schools that incorporate physical activity throughout their programs. Award-winning schools demonstrate a culture of movement throughout the day. NOMMA demonstrates a culture of movement throughout the day in classes such as JROTC, activities during school hours, and in before and after school programs such as athletics, family and community events, and staff participation. 

     “Thank you to our Marine Instructors, coaches, and teachers for making fitness and physical activity a meaningful part of daily life at NOMMA,” said Principal Long. “Their dedication ensures that cadets not only build strength and discipline but also benefit academically through improved grades, better attendance, enhanced focus, and positive classroom behavior. At NOMMA, physical fitness is a vital part of our cadets’ success—mind, body, and spirit. We are NOMMA!”


NOMMA is a top-rated open admissions public charter 8-12 high school adjacent to the Marine Forces Reserve national headquarters in Federal City and serving all students from the metro area.
