New Orleans, LA – Saturday, women community leaders across the 2nd Congressional District endorsed Sen. Karen Carter Peterson and shared why they’re uniting behind her record as a bold, progressive fighter for working families.

“I'm supporting Karen Carter Peterson, not only because she supports the issues that matter to me, but also because she responds to her constituents,” Madalyn Schenk said. “That's a big part of the job in Congress and I can testify firsthand that Karen will take care of you. She's represented me for 21 years in the Louisiana legislature, and she has always been there to answer my call and take action for our community."

“I first met Karen after Katrina while I served as my neighborhood’s president and advocate. We are 100% with her,” Deborah Langhoff said. “Whether advancing a neighborhood project or confronting Bobby Jindal’s radical right bullies, or stumping for Democrats in Louisiana and across the country, Karen Carter Peterson is the same trustworthy, progressive public servant, doing the work. In healthcare, women’s rights, the climate crisis, and equity, Karen advances her values, building consensus when she can, or exercising her judgement to stand alone when the cause is just.”

“As a community leader and an advocate for women and children in the River Parishes, I'm supporting Karen because she recognizes the challenges ahead and has the experience, dedication, and courage to fight for all of Louisiana in Congress,” Alsie Dunbar said. 

"Right now, our families are hurting and too many small businesses have shut their doors for good. We need a tested leader in Washington who will hold officials accountable for the true relief we need to recover from this pandemic. Karen did it after Hurricane Katrina, and she'll do it now. She'll push to get families the relief checks they need, aid to our small businesses, and a $15 minimum wage to finally give tens of thousands of workers in our district the raise they deserve,” Yvonne Mitchell Grubb said.

“Karen has been an ally, mentor, and champion on so many issues important to women and our families – especially economic and reproductive justice,” Julie Schwam Harris said. “She's an ardent and unapologetic advocate for civil and equal rights, and a staunch supporter of the bold action we need to tackle the climate crisis and protect the environment. I'm proud to stand with her and make history by electing her to Congress."

"I support Karen because we’re way overdue to have a true progressive speaking for us in Congress,” Linda Kocher said. “We need a real change in how our district is represented, not a new person speaking with the same old voice. Karen is that change. I trust that she'll always speak truth to power, because it's what she's always done. Too many times it was up to Karen to speak women's truth in Baton Rouge. She knows that women's rights are human rights, and she'll never shy away from that in Washington."
