Hello fellow Loyola alums,

For the past 20 months I have been serving on the enrichment subcommittee of the Loyola Alumni Association Board of Directors. Our sole purpose has been to organize a alumni event as part of the 100th Anniversary of our university that would promote both scholarship and fellowship. We were also charged to host an event that would appeal to all alumni; which was a challenge considering that Loyola boasts 40K graduates and over 70+ academic disciplines.

After many meetings and discussions; we are proud to announce Loyola’s Alumni College Weekend; June 22ndto the 24th, 2012 at Loyola University New Orleans. The concept is simple. In the spirit of a continuing Loyola education, we have recreated the Loyola experience over a three day weekend. Alumni, parents & friends will be given the opportunity to take classes taught by a all-star cast of present and past Loyola professors and alumni.

Participating ‘students’ will sign up for one academic track and take classes Friday evening, Saturday and then celebrate mass with Fr. Wildes on that Sunday. Dinners, concerts, field trips and other events are scattered throughout to give participants the holistic experience that Loyola is famous for. If you can only make a day or a event you have that option as well.

For those who REALLY want to recapture the experience there will be rooms available in the LU residence halls!

A full explanation and course catalog can be found here:

Loyola has invested heavily in making this a first class event. We hope this weekend is a huge step toward building a stronger bridge between Loyola and its alumni as well setting up a framework for yearly enrichment weekends similar to those held at Rice and Vanderbilt. However, if we don’t get serious interest we are back to square one.

I should note the cost of the program may be a little steep for our very young alumni but there are a variety of pricing and lodging options. The weekends overall cost is in line with similar enrichment seminars/conferences offered across the US.

I have about 400 alums on this email but my expectation is that this email is forwarded around to everyone’s list so as many people as possible are told about what’s happening this summer. Please send this information along to anyone who you think might be interested!

Hope to see you all in June!
