Former public school teacher plans to qualify on Tuesday, Sept. 6 for District 2, which covers portions of Orleans, Jefferson, St. Charles, St. John, St. James and
Assumption Parishes

Kira Orange Jones, the Executive Director of Teach for America – 
Greater New Orleans, who has supervised over 1000 teachers and a 
$10 million budget to infuse the area’s public schools with strong, 
innovative educators, will qualify for the District 2 seat, Board of 
Elementary and Secondary Education. Qualifying begins Tuesday, 
Sept. 6. The primary election is Oct. 22, followed by the general election 
on Nov. 19. The district for the state BESE seat covers the east and 
west banks of Orleans, the west bank of Jefferson, and St. Charles, 
St. John, St. James and Assumption Parishes. Read more about
