St.Bernard Project 6th Anniversary Events

On August 29th,six years will have passed since Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast andleft the New Orleans area decimated and flooded, and left its citizenswondering if they would ever be able to come home. With contractor fraud andinsufficient government support, too many families are still waiting. Indeed, more than 200 families in the area still live in FEMA trailers and 10,000 otherfamilies wish to rebuild the homes they own, but cannot due to financialconstraints.

Who: St. Bernard Project (SBP)is an innovative, award-winning non-profit organization whose mission isto remove physical, mental, and emotional barriers for vulnerable families, senior citizens and disabled residents struggling to recover from thedevastation and trauma caused by Hurricane Katrina, while also serving as amodel for disaster rebuilding and affordable housing. In addition, we’ve provided free highquality mental health services to more than 450 patients in our Center forWellness and Mental Health and have launched our Good Work Good Pay program, which hires veterans and other unemployed residents in the skilled trades ofresidential construction.

Need: However, even as SBP's capacity has grown, there are 130families on our waiting list, with more applying each week. With eachanniversary of the storm, there is a renewed sense of urgency to complete therecovery for the thousands of families still struggling to return home.
