At long last, I have working systems:

 - the shuttle SG31G2 with a 2.5 MHz Core 2 Duo is now dual booting Win 8.1 and Ubuntu 14.04.1. Windows and Ubuntu are each on their own 3G speed SSD’s. After multiple failing tries at the many recipes to get gnuradio/grc/gqrx up and running … including four, from scratch, installs of Ubuntu as well as three two hour runs of the illustrious <http://www.sbrac.org/files/build-gnuradio> … I wiped the drive, installed Ubuntu 14.04.1 and then made one more try at the big script … two hours later I plugged in my HackRF One and brought up “lesson1solution and it worked out of the box. I plugged in an RTL dongle and it worked fine. I got out my Ham-It-Up and some ‘tweenies’ to connect the SMA female on the up-converter to the PL259 on my 88 foot doublet.

 - I have gutted my MacPorts on the iMac five times. I just kept getting segment fault errors in the executables produced. I gave it one more try and with a freshly installed MacPort and used “search” I then did a “port install gqrx @2.3.1.3” … 30 minutes later gqrx was up and running with “AFSK1200 Decoder” listening to the local APRS Digi.

Now all that is left is gnuradio-companion on the Mac … knock on wood … I have a good feeling that will go OK.

 cheers … 73 de N1BQ
