FWIW I have successfully built hackrf 2013.07.1 for Ubuntu 12.04 ...
13.10 both 32 and 64 bit. I didn't notice any differences between 32
and 64 bit, but the packages and build logs are available here:
https://launchpad.net/~gqrx/+archive/snapshots
