August 14th – 17th              Friday – Monday         Santa Rosa Island /
Channel Islands National Park

 

Spend a long weekend on the Channel Islands second largest isle.  This
islands relatively low profile is broken by a central mountain range.  Six
plant species are found only here and the island hosts over 100 bird and
three mammal species. Humans have been using the island for over 13,000
years so why not us?

 

Depart Friday at 8:00 AM from Ventura marina for a 2 to 2 ¼ hour passage.
Boat travel is provided by Island Packers for a round trip fee of $114.00.
During the crossing there is a good chance to see dolphins, blue and
humpback whales! The campgrounds are 1.5 miles from the pier. The sites
(w/H2O) hold 5 persons each and they will need to be reserved ASAP ($15 per
site). Additionally, beginning on the 15th (Sat.) backcountry beach camping
is allowed anywhere from 7 to 14 miles from the formal campground. Santa
Rosa offers numerous hikes all over the island, great views and overall good
times!

 

Return departure at 3:00 PM on Monday. Our return trip includes a brief
viewing of Painted Cave on Santa Cruz Island – one of the largest sea caves
in the world. Arrive back in Ventura between 6 and 6:30.  Please reply
