[CMCEmail] Best southern Sierra peak route?

Sam -
A few years ago, I day hiked University peak from Onion Valley and then the next day did a nice loop from the trail head to Dragon Peak returning over Mt. Gould and Kearsarge Pass.  The lack of snow in October (I did these in early June) might make these less fun - or not.

Sam:

Try the east ridge of Mt. Winchell. This might be
rated 4th class in a guide book, but can be easily climbed solo without a rope.
It is a superb climb with stunning views.

Hi fellow CMC member-

I will be driving to the
Sierras from SoCal on a Saturday in October, sleeping near the trailhead,
climbing up and down something on Sunday, and driving back to SoCal that
night. I might be solo, so I don't want the difficulty to exceed 3rd class.
What would you recommend (other than Whitney)?

Thanks,
