Sam:

Try the east ridge of Mt. Winchell. This might be rated 4th class in a guide book, but can be easily climbed solo without a rope. It is a superb climb with stunning views.

Hi fellow CMC member-

I will be driving to the Sierras from SoCal on a Saturday in October, sleeping near the trailhead, climbing up and down something on Sunday, and driving back to SoCal that night. I might be solo, so I don't want the difficulty to exceed 3rd class. What would you recommend (other than Whitney)?

Thanks,
