Audubon Charter Schools to Assume Leadership of Baton Rouge Charter School

Audubon Expands High-Performing School Program Beyond Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – (January 31, 2025) –  The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board approved allowing New Orleans-based Audubon Charter Schools, a historically high academically performing network of elementary schools, to assume leadership of IDEA Innovation Charter School of Baton Rouge, effective for the 2025-2026 school year.

“Audubon Schools is honored to have been selected by the East Baton Rouge Parish School System to take on the management and oversight of IDEA Innovation Charter School,” said Dr. Steven Corbett, CEO of Audubon Charter Schools. “We are eager to partner with the District during this transition year and are committed to delivering the high-quality education that Audubon is known for, building strong relationships with IDEA families and becoming a part of the Baton Rouge community.”

IDEA Innovation, located at 7800 Innovation Park Dr., currently serves over 750 students in grades K-12. Audubon currently operates two high-performing, open-enrollment schools in New Orleans: the A-rated Audubon-Uptown (PK–8th grade) and Audubon-Gentilly (K–8th grade).

Audubon has appointed Kenya Hill as the Executive Director of the Baton Rouge campus.. “Kenya’s leadership at Audubon Gentilly helped drive some of the largest school performance increases in the state over the past two years. Her experience and commitment to academic excellence make her well-equipped to lead our efforts in Baton Rouge and ensure the same outstanding results for students and families,” said Corbett.

The new Audubon-led school will mirror Audubon’s proven curriculum, foundational principles, and academic structure, ensuring an enriched learning experience for students.  Audubon will transition its program into K-5 grades, offering Audubon’s signature educational experience grounded in strong academics, gifted and talented programing, and comprehensive arts.

In January, the IDEA Louisiana Board of Directors and IDEA’s executive leadership made the decision to voluntarily surrender the charter for IDEA Innovation, effective at the close of the 2024-2025 school year.  Because of its demonstrated history of exceptional academic growth, Audubon was chosen by East Baton Rouge Schools to manage the school.  In 2023 and 2024, Audubon Schools demonstrated exceptional growth, earning the network a “Top Gains” designation from the Louisiana Department of Education — a distinction awarded to schools that show the highest growth across the state.

“Throughout this year, we will work closely with the East Baton Rouge School System and IDEA administration to ensure a smooth transition of leadership and management.” said Corbett.
