Hynes Charter School-Lakeview and Hynes Charter School-UNO Awarded Prestigious "LabelFrancÉducation" Seal by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Award recognizes schools’ French immersion excellence in promoting French language and culture
Hynes Charter School-Lakeview and Hynes Charter School-UNO have been honored with the prestigious "LabelFrancÉducation" seal by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of France in the United States for the 2024–2027 period. This international recognition celebrates the schools’ excellence in promoting French language and culture through their immersive dual language program.
“This seal is a recognition of Hynes’ outstanding French dual language immersion program,” said Rodolphe Sambou, Cultural Attaché at the Consulate General of France in New Orleans. “Thank you for your commitment to our shared mission of promoting the French language and culture. The Embassy of France in the United States is dedicated to supporting your program’s continued success.”
Hynes Charter Schools offer a French Immersion program at their Lakeview and UNO campuses, serving students from Kindergarten through 8th grade. Taught by native French-speaking, certified instructors, this program enables students to learn in a fully immersive environment, enhancing both their linguistic abilities and cultural awareness.
Dr. Michelle Douglas, CEO of Hynes Charter Schools, expressed pride in this latest accolade, saying, “Hynes is honored to receive the ‘LabelFrancÉducation’ designation. Our French Immersion program not only teaches students to speak French fluently but also empowers them with a broader understanding of global cultures. This immersive experience enriches their academics and equips them with a unique, lifelong advantage.”
The "LabelFrancÉducation" seal is granted by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs upon the recommendation of an interministerial advisory committee. This committee includes representatives from the French Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education, the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE), the French Institute (IF), and Mission Laïque Française, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting French culture and language worldwide.
This recognition adds to Hynes’ longstanding reputation for excellence. In 2023, Dr. Douglas was awarded the Palmes Académiques by the Consul General of France in Louisiana, recognizing the school’s pioneering contributions to French education in the state.
Hynes Charter Schools are recognized as some of the most sought-after, non-selective admission schools in Orleans Parish, with three campuses located in Lakeview and Gentilly. Additionally, Hynes was recently named a Cognia® System of Distinction school for its commitment to high-quality education.
