New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy Celebrates

POSSE Scholarship Winner Raul Zajur

 

The New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA), an open admissions public charter school located in Algiers, adjacent to the Marine Forces Reserve national headquarters in Federal City, proudly announces that Senior Cadet Raul Zajur is a Villanova University Posse 5 scholarship winner. 

Posse, which annually awards full scholarships to a diverse selection of students, announced 890 scholarships from more than 17,000 applicants for the Class of 2024. Forty New Orleans students are Posse winners of $9 million in full-tuition scholarships. This is the second year a NOMMA Cadet will join the New Orleans “posse” to attend Villanova University in Pennsylvania.          

The organization announced the award to NOMMA Principal Alexis Long and Cadet Zajur by stating: "We are thrilled to welcome you to the Posse family! You should be very proud of yourself and all your efforts during this extensive selection process. This year, we received over 700 nominations for 40 Posse New Orleans Scholarships. During the recruitment process for this year's Posse Scholars, the Posse Foundation staff, along with official representatives from Villanova University, watched you demonstrate admirable leadership, intellect, and a commitment to making a difference, both in your own life and in your community."      

NOMMA is open to all students in grades 8-12 in the Greater New Orleans metro area. All registered students are cadets in the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Program (MCJROTC).           

“We are extremely proud of Cadet Zajur and how well he exemplifies the qualities of leadership, character and academic scholarship here at NOMMA. He will represent his family and community well at Villanova,” said Principal Long.
