|  To our partners: We hope you’re doing well as we head toward the holiday season. Because we work so closely together and share the goal of serving New Orleans’ students and supporting their schools, we are offering a regular email update on our collective work. We will gather some of the latest headlines and provide context on some of the most important issues the New Orleans education community is facing right now. We will also share some thoughts on how we can advance these goals together. Going forward, we’ll be sending these updates as we identify areas in which we can align in order to help fuel our schools’ success. |  School Performance Scores (SPS) Were Released for the First Time Since the PandemicOn November 16, the Louisiana Department of Education released 2021-2022 School Performance Scores (SPS). Seventy-nine percent of New Orleans Public Schools earned an A or B letter grade for their academic progress, and the system at large maintained a C letter grade overall. One component of SPS is the “Assessment Index,” which measures performance on state tests. If our schools sustain the same pace of growth, our district will surpass our pre-pandemic Assessment Index after next school year.LDOE also reports “top growth” each year, which shows us the percentage of our students who are on track to reach Mastery or Advanced on state tests and/or are outperforming most peers with similar characteristics (like race or socioeconomic status) statewide. |  Declining Enrollment in New Orleans Will Require Changes in Our SystemNSNO has been working alongside schools and the district as we cope with the realities of declining enrollment district wide. This trend, caused by demographic changes in our city (as in many others), means some schools will have to move, combine, or close in future years. We encourage you to check out our full enrollment landscape analysis and our articles laying out context and causes of the enrollment drop in New Orleans and nationwide, the specifics of what that means for our district, and details on what upcoming changes might look like, including InspireNOLA’s recent decision to combine two schools into one. These changes are complex, important, and often difficult. At NSNO, we’re working closely with NOLA-PS to do what we can to make these transitions easier. We know that ultimately, they help us ensure that every school has the resources they need and that students can learn in higher-quality facilities. For more on this topic:

   - The nonprofit BE NOLA has launched a paid fellowship for Black teachers which offers community-building and professional development support. The deadline is Friday, December 9th. 
   - The Orleans Parish School Board passed a policy requiring schools to offer additional accommodations and supports to students who are parents.
