Lake Forest Charter Middle SchoolStudents Start Better Future Program (BFP)
Eye See You Project will donatereading glasses to homeless shelters and Harvey victims
Last year, fourteen 7th graders at Lake Forest Charter school had an idea. They decided tostart a program make to the world a better place, and thus the Better Future Program (BFP) wasborn. The group was created to help keepstudents, young and old, on track.
The Better Future Program initiallywas a blog that included homework help, healthy recipes, study tips, student artwork, writing and more. Over the past year, the site has been visited by students internationally, from the USA toIreland and Brazil with nearly 4,000 unique visitors and 58,220 plus page views.
Eventually the group evolved intocommunity outreach, including The Eye SeeYou Project, with the mission to donate reading glasses to homelessshelters, as reading glasses are one of the most needed items. Recently, thegroup has dedicated its efforts to collecting glasses for Hurricane Harveyvictims. The students are asking that fellow students donate $1, buy a pair of$1 glasses at a local dollar store to donate or donate a gently used pair ofglasses at any strength. The class that collects the most will win a pizzaparty.
“We are so incredibly proud of ouramazing students and their dedication to giving to the community,” said LakeForest Charter CEO Mardele Early. “At Lake Forest, we realize the importance ofnot only succeeding academically, but becoming a successful and contributingmember of society. Our Eagles areleaders and givers and these young ladies exemplify that.”
