at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 2114Rev. Richard Wilson Dr. (formerly Jefferson Hwy.) 
Kenner, Louisiana beginningsharply at 10:00 a.m.
 
 We are sopleased.  2016-17 is our 1stSchool Year, and this is our very 1st 
 KindergartenPromotional Exercise.  On FridayMay 26, 2017 our 
 KindergartenStudents, dressed in Caps and Gowns will be presented to our 
 Staff andStudent Body at 2:00 p.m.

Smothers Academy Preparatory School has been created tobe a gender-specific Type 2 BESE Charter School free to thepublic, located at 2012 Jefferson Highway Jefferson, LA 70121. SmothersAcademy is designed to develop male students into competent, self-motivated,lifelong learners. SmothersAcademy opened its doors on August 22, 2016 with grades K-6, and at itscapacity will serve male children from grades Kindergarten to 12 from diverseethnic as well as socio-economic backgrounds. Mr. Damon B. Smothers, S.S.Psy.,M.Ed., LEP founder of Smothers Academy Preparatory School, being a proud NewOrleanian has the educational credentials, experience, cultural competence andunderstanding to validate the dire need to break the "school to prisonpipeline" while offering innovative educational alternatives. Mr. Smothersis adamant about                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  assisting the community in rewriting thenarrative with regard to male students and in particular, boys of color. We mustmaintain high behavioral and academic expectations of our sons in order tobreak the cycle of poverty, criminal behavior, mass incarceration and prematuredeath. Smothers Academy was created to assist these boys in becomingwell-rounded, insightful individuals who constantly seek knowledge and willultimately become college educated productive men.
