Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools Welcomes New Communications Director and Administrative/Policy Coordinator
NEW ORLEANS—(May 29, 2015)— The Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools (LAPCS) announced two recent hires to help the organization better pursue its mission of supporting, promoting, and advocating for high quality charters across the state. Tina Chong joins LAPCS as its Communications and Public Relations Director, and Stacey Stein is the organization’s new Administrative and Policy Coordinator.
“We’re excited to welcome Tina and Stacey to our team as we continue our work to ensure that students and parents have access to good, high quality public schools across the state,” said LAPCS Executive Director Caroline Roemer Shirley. “The addition of these two new staff members will allow us to further improve our communications and advocacy efforts in support of our charter school members statewide.”
As the Communications and Public Relations Director for LAPCS, Chong will focus on promoting the charter school movement and its successes to a wide array of stakeholders. She brings to LAPCS extensive experience in leading communications efforts for education organizations, most recently serving as the Executive Director of Communications for the Jefferson Parish Public School System. She has also held communications roles for the US Department of Education, City Year, and Lincoln Financial Group. Chong received her bachelor's degree from Yale University and a master in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Stein will support LACPS’ policy and advocacy work in her role as the Administrative and Policy Coordinator, and comes to the organization with over 25 years of experience in a variety of legal, educational, business, and governmental settings. She began her legal career with the National Labor Relations Board, where she worked as a trial attorney, and later worked on a variety of labor and employment cases. Stein is active in her community, having served as a teacher and board member at Communal Hebrew School, a board member for the National Council of Jewish Women, and a member of the special needs committee for the Jewish Children’s Regional Service. She graduated from Newcomb College of Tulane University with a bachelor’s degree in international relations and received a JD from Loyola School of Law in New Orleans.
