                Three students from Kenilworth Science and Technology School walked away with awards this week at the Louisiana State Science and Engineering Fair, held on the LSU campus.               
                
                
               
                
                One Kenilworth student, Monica Deras, received a special award from the Association for Women Geoscientists. Monica, who presented a project on solar power, also took third place in the Earth and Planetary Science category.               
                
                
               
                
                Julia Rodriguez took second place in the Environmental Sciences category for her project on bacteria that can be used during an oil spill to eat oil cells. Andrew Knott won a second-place special award from the Louisiana Association of Mathematics Teachers for his math-based project.               
                
                
               
                
                Overall, Kenilworth won the third-highest number of awards among Baton Rouge schools, behind Glasgow Middle and Catholic High School. Here is a list of all winning projects in the junior category.               
                
                
               
                
                "Our students worked hard for these awards, and we believe it is important to celebrate their successes," said Kenilworth Superintendent Dr. Tevfik Eski. "The keys to the school's success are high expectations for all students, a true partnership with parents and creating a culture of learning and discovery."               
 
               
                 
Kenilworth Science and Technology Charter School is a state-sanctioned charter school with an academic focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM.
