Benjamin Franklin High School Receives $30,000Memorial Gift
New Orleans, LA - Benjamin Franklin High School is pleased to announce agift honoring the memory of alumnus Siegfried Christensen. This generous $30,000 contribution wasmade by Rowena S. Christensen in memory of her late son, Siegfried B. ChristensenIV, Class of ’72.
“We aregrateful for the Christensen family’s generosity, which speaks to theircommitment to education and the memory of an outstanding student,” saidFranklin’s Principal/CEO, Dr. Timothy Rusnak. “Their gift will help us preparestudents to go forth and improve the world and honor Siegfried Christensen’sdedication to academic achievement.”
Sieg graduated from Franklin in 1972and from University of New Orleans with honors, receiving the American ChemicalSociety’s Undergraduate Award in Chemistry. He went on to earn his master’s and doctoral degrees fromJohn Hopkins University followed by a successful 27-year career atGlaxoSmithKline, where he retired as vice-president. Mr. Christensen passed away in 2011, leaving a legacy ofinnovation and a positive global impact. “Mr. Christensen is a genuine Franklin success story,” says Rusnak.
$5,000 of this gift will be committed toessential renovations of the chemical storage room in honor of long-time Franklinfaculty member and inspiring science teacher, Herbert Weyer. $5,000 of thegift is also dedicated to providing financial assistance for students inneed taking Advanced Placement exams.
$20,000 will establish the Siegfried B.Christensen IV Memorial Chemistry Scholarship. “We are grateful to Mrs.Christensen for her consideration of her son’s alma mater and recognition ofthe impact his years at Ben Franklin had on his life,” says Development DirectorChristy Cowart Read ’89. “This gift is a thoughtful endowment supportingthe students of Benjamin Franklin High School in so many ways.”
