WHAT:        EinsteinCharter School is proud to announce that Einstein Charter School Extension hasbeen graded a “B” school for the 2014 school year by the State Department ofEducation, making it the first failing school in the state’s history toturnaround in one academic year.

WHY:
The consistently high-performing, open admissions EinsteinCharter took over the failing former Intercultural School in New Orleans East forthe 2013-14 school year and is the first in Louisiana history to turnaround afailing school to a “B” grade in only one year.  Einstein Charter School and Einstein Charter SchoolExtension were graded jointly as a “B” school, with a 91.9 score.
 
“I am incredibly proud of the students, parents, teachersand administrators of Einstein Charter School and Einstein Charter School Extensionfor this incredible feat,” said Council President Stacy Head.  “This typeof turnaround simply does not happen without 100% participation, a commitmentto excellence, support at home and of course the dedication of outstandingteachers and staff.  Hats off to Einstein Charter!”
 
Einstein Charter School, recognized by the LouisianaDepartment of Education as a “Top Gains” school and by New Orleans PublicSchools as a “Top Performing” School, was awarded a $1 million grant to turnaround Intercultural Charter School, later renamed Einstein Extension CharterSchool. The expansion doubled the size of the school to approximately 1000students in grades PK-8.
 
“To reach our full potential as a city, every child in NewOrleans must receive an excellent education,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu.“Thanks to the hard work of students, parents, teachers and education leaders,New Orleans is raising the bar and the Einstein Schools are a great example ofthis work.”
 
Einstein Charter School and Einstein Charter School Extensionhave one of the most diverse student bodies in the city and one of the largestEnglish Language Learner populations, with 33 percent of its students in an ELLprogram for Vietnamese or Spanish. Both Einstein campuses are K-8 openadmission charter schools authorized by the Orleans Parish School Board.
