[CharterSchools] Young Audiences Charter School still has limited openings available

Young AudiencesCharter School at Kate Middleton (YACS) currently still has limited openings ingrades K-1 for the 2014-15 school year at its 1407 Virgil St. campus in Gretna.Parents still looking for a school are strongly encouraged to register theirchildren now.
 
School LeaderFolwell Dunbar stated that there were still a few spots available inkindergarten and 1st grade at the school, but stressed thatparents should not delay in registering.
  
Young AudiencesCharter School at Kate Middleton is an open enrollment, arts-integrated charterschool. It opened in 2013 with over 400 students in grades K-3. For the 2014-15school year, enrollment is open to any Jefferson Parish student entering Kindergartenthrough 4th grade. Each following academic year, the school will add one gradeto serve students in grades K-8 by Fall 2018.







 
Recent researchshows that students at schools with an arts-integrated curriculum score higheron standardized tests and academic measures than those at other types ofschools, including academic magnet schools. (PAIR, 2013)  Additionally,students involved in the arts are more likely to have better attendance, fewerbehavior referrals, and increased class participation.

Young Audiences of Louisiana was founded in 1962 with the missionto inspire, empower, and connect children and communities through education,arts, and culture. Over the last 51 years the organization has grown frompresenting school performances of chamber music to our current position as thestate's largest provider of arts-integrated and after-school programs. In 2012Young Audiences of Louisiana employed over 250 trained teaching artists andeducators to provide after-school programs for over 2,200 studentsfree-of-charge in the Greater New Orleans area.
