Benjamin Franklin High School Ranked 16th best public high school in the 
nation by U.S. News and World Report
Also rated #5 in “Top Charter Schools” in U.S.
  
       Benjamin Franklin High School, a New Orleans public charter school, 
has been rated as one of 20“America’s Best High Schools” as the 16th best high 
school in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, announced Principal and 
CEO, Dr. Timothy Rusnak.  
     Franklin is also rated fifth in the “Top Charter Schools” list and 
fourth in the "Top Magnet Schools" list subcategories. 
     The rankings and article about Franklin are currently posted on the 
magazine’s website (

s performance in the 2006-07 school year. Franklin placed 16th out of more 
than 21,000 high schools from 48 states and the top 100 schools were given ‘Gold 
Medal’ status. 
    “Franklin is proud to be receiving this prestigious honor for the first 
time,” said Dr. Rusnak. “Franklin’s ‘Spirit of Excellence’ continues and I 
congratulate the hard work of our teachers, staff, parents and students for 
making Franklin what it is today.”
     The rankings were based on how the school performed statewide on the 
state’s standardized tests, how the disadvantaged students (minority and low 
income) performed on the state’s tests compared to their peers in the state, and 
college readiness.
     U.S. News and World Report also produced a video about Franklin entitled

 Since 1957, Benjamin Franklin High School has educated the city’s best and 
brightest, while continuously rating as one of the top public high schools in 
the nation.  Franklin has been consistently ranked as a “top public high school 
in the nation” by Newsweek magazine and has received the highest School 
Performance Score in Louisiana, making it the #1 public school in the state of 
Louisiana.
