Hadley P. Cadmus

Hadley P. Cadmus died on July 20, 2008, at the Van Dyk Manor Nursing Home,
Montclair. He was 93. Funeral services will be at the Prout Funeral Home,
370 Bloomfield Ave., Verona, on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at 8:30 p.m.
Visiting will be in the Prout Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, from
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Born in Glen Ridge, Mr. Cadmus and his wife,
Laurel, lived in Verona for 53 years before moving to Montclair five years
ago. He worked his entire life in the fuel oil business, first with Cities
Service Oil Co., Newark, and then Eastern of New Jersey, Inc. in Jersey
City, where he retired after 38 years. Mr. Cadmus entered the U.S. Army in
1942 and served in the Ordinance and Medical Corps. He attended Glen Ridge
High School and Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pa. He also attended
Rutgers College. Mr. Cadmus was a former member of the Glen Ridge Country
Club and the First Presbyterian Church of Bloomfield since 1958. He was a
devoted follower the Princeton football and basketball teams and attended
many of their games from the age of 10 until he was 83. Mr. Cadmus leaves
his beloved wife, Laurel Churchill Cadmus, and his very devoted son,
Hadley P. Cadmus Jr. and his wife, Virginia, and their two sons, Michael
and Thomas, whom he loved dearly. He also leaves behind a special niece,
Judy Vandenberg and her family of Brunswick, Maine. He was the son of the
late E.L. Cadmus and the late Grace Godwin Cadmus. He was predeceased by
two brothers and two sisters. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
the Montclair Volunteer Ambulance Unit, 96 Walnut St., Montclair, N.J.
