| East Baton Rouge Metro Council Member Cleve Dunn Jr. Endorses Sen. Karen Carter Peterson for Congress
New Orleans, LA – Sunday, East Baton Rouge Metro Council Member Cleve Dunn Jr. announced his endorsement of Sen. Karen Carter Peterson in the 2nd Congressional District. Dunn made history as the first Black man elected to represent District 6 on the Metro Council and was a key, early supporter of Gary Chambers’ Congressional bid.
“After our years-long struggle for justice for the family of Alton Sterling, George Floyd, and others, we can’t wait or settle for anything less than full criminal justice and policing reform from Washington. The old ways haven’t worked for our community, and we need something different. We need a fighter with the courage to speak truth to power and go against the status quo – that fighter is Karen. I’m excited to work together to make history and send Karen to Washington as Louisiana’s first Black Congresswoman,” Council member Dunn said.
“With the help of community leaders like Cleve Dunn Jr., I’m ready to act boldly to demand the action we need for Baton Rouge on criminal justice reform, environmental justice, and economic justice. We can’t compromise on the issues that matter most or go along to get along any longer. People need help today, and that means fighting hard for change, not settling for the status quo,” Sen. Karen Carter Peterson said.

As a leader in the state legislature, Karen established herself as a bold, progressive voice for working people. While serving in Baton Rouge, Karen fought to get communities the help they needed after Hurricane Katrina, led the charge to expand Medicaid in Louisiana while serving on President Obama’s Affordable Care Act Task Force, and stood up for reproductive freedom whenever those rights were threatened. |
