Even though the Traffic and Municipal Courts were consolidated in 2014, most citizens don’t know that these were merged into a modernized court with seven Judges who preside over violations of City of New Orleans ordinances, including traffic offenses, first and second offense DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) prosecutions, and the enforcement of health, safety and welfare ordinances within Orleans Parish.
 
With the cooperation of the Cantrell Administration, the Court is working to resolve an extensive “old case” archive brought into the system when the two courts merged and a New Case Management System was established. Many of these cases are too old to prosecute and already more than 20,000 have been properly closed.
 
I am writing to encourage you to get to know our court structure. So many services are now online---not just due to the changes in operations because of the COVID pandemic, but because the consolidation, along with New Case Management System, has allowed us to facilitate many service improvements.

Judge Shea has practiced law since 1984, and previously served as a public defender until getting elected Judge in 2009. He presides over Division D of Municipal and Traffic Court. He is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, New Orleans Bar Association, Jefferson Bar Association, St. Thomas More Catholic Lawyers Association, American Judges Association, Louisiana City Court Judges Association and a Board Member of the 4th and 5th Circuit Judges Association. He is married with two daughters and one grandbaby on the way.
