Residents thank Landrieu Administrationand City Attorney Dan McNamara
for strong enforcement actions beforeAlcohol Beverage Control Board regarding 711 Bourbon aka Bourbon Heat

Residents monitoring theCity’s enforcement of quality of life ordinances, thank City Attorney DanMcNamara for strongly standing up for the enforcement of existing laws whichprohibit commercial establishments from acting as public nuisances, especiallyas it concerns noise violations.

711 Bourbon, aka BourbonHeat, had illegally placed speakers in its courtyard and played amplified musicwithout closing its doors and windows, to the detriment of residents and otherneighboring establishments.

These actions violate cityordinances that the bar is supposed to respect, according to actions by theAlcohol Beverage Control Board. The bar was fined by the ABO for violatingthese ordinances and if brought before the ABO again for similar violations, their alcohol license will be suspended for 120 days or permanently revoked.

“This is a major victory forresidents of any community where there is a neighborhood bar. Enforcement ofthe law is about everyone being a good neighbor,” said Coco Garrett, FrenchQuarter Citizens.

Neighborhood groups have foryears documented zoning and permit violations by 711 Bourbon, which occupies abuilding known as the Tricou House, an historic Creole townhouse. The VieuxCarre Commission, in particular, has repeatedly reprimanded the property forundertaking illegal construction projects which destroy the integrity of itsproperty. The bar also erected stages and tents in its courtyard, withoutpermits and in violation of zoning codes that prohibit outdoor liveentertainment. The bar has also been the subject of complaints for opening allrear doors and windows on all floors of the building and blasting amplifiedsound into the homes of dozens of Quarter residents on a daily basis. 711Bourbon should be enclosed for amplified music, according to city code.

“The ABO’s decision sends astrong message to scofflaw operators and we commend the City and ABO for takingsuch a stance and being vigilant in protecting neighborhoods,” said MegLousteau, Vieux Carre Property Owners Residents and Associates.
