[Kreweoftruth] What if you threw an election...

...and no one showed up. The League of Women Voters' forum tonight almost makes you wonder if that will happen on March 24, when the City of New Orleans will choose a new Councilmember at Large. There were more media and campaign staffers at the League forum than there were citizens. 


It's a shame, because the stand out candidate at the debate was no doubt State Representative Austin Badon. He offered the most creative ideas and he was best prepared to address the issue of who exactly should be on the Council to represent everyone. As GAMBIT tweeted, Badon impressed with his closing: 
 "I will do anything to make sure your city is safe for all people. "Sky's the limit" as to what we can do."




A Statement from State Representative Austin Badon regarding the announcement that the Mayor and Police Chief are asking for federal help on violent crime:
 
"I applaud and thank the Mayor on this great step in putting more law enforcement on our streets. I reiterate my call to utilize the Louisiana National Guard as a short-term solution until the violence is under control and new recruits are able to plug the 13 percent gap in our police force.
 
"But, whether it's through additional NOPD, state or federal resources, the bottom line is I join the Mayor's call to increase manpower to combat this unacceptable level of violent crime. New Orleanians need their public officials to bring all available resources to bear. This is a win for our city."
