The numbers don’t lie. At the Algiers community meeting in January, Chief Serpas said NOPD has lost over 200 officers since May 2010, leaving us with just over 1,320 police. That 13 percent decline in police force pretty clearly correlates to the 14 percent increase in murders we saw last year. Our officers need more help. They deserve it. So do we.
