SCHEDULE FOR AUGUST 5, 2011
11am-11:45pm | Workshop 1 - Using ALEC Exposed files and other online methods locally: A how-to guide for independent journalists, investigators, and activists working against ALEC’s influence
Catholic Worker House
1910 Constance St
New Orleans, LA 70130
Since the unveiling of the ALEC Exposed project on July 13, 2011, independent media and organizers have successfully used the leaked files to identify ALEC members and legislation in their states, and to ask local media to report on them. Join experienced independent journalists and investigators for a workshop on using proven methods–and develop new ones–for making use of the ALEC Exposed files to counter ALEC’s influence on your state or local government.
*Please note, this workshop is not hosted or sponsored by the Center for Media and Democracy.*
12pm-1:45pm | Workshop 2: What’s Next for ProtestALEC?: Organizing for Phoenix and beyond
Catholic Worker House
1910 Constance St
New Orleans, LA 70130
Join organizers from the Cincinnati and New Orleans protest in charting next steps to continue resistance against ALEC at its States & Nation Policy Summit (Phoenix, AZ, Nov 30-Dec 2, 2011) and beyond. We welcome the input of all, and are particularly interested in hearing from (i) those who can work on the ground in Phoenix or (ii) those who are interested in establishing a formal organizational structure for the national protest group.
