Two outings this week!

 

 

October 10th                      Saturday
Canyoneering: Supercloud Canyon     

 

Supercloud Canyon is an awesome sight from the Angeles Crest Highway. Join
me to run this canyon which has 6 rappels, the longest being about 100 feet.
The canyon should be completely dry. A short car shuttle is required. We
will start off from the Mt. Disappointment Fire Road trailhead just below
San Gabriel Peak. There is a fairly steep drop in into the canyon about 45
minutes from the start. The outing will take about 6 hours car to car. You
should have solid rappelling skills. You will need seat harness, helmet,
descending device and some sort of safety tether with a locking carabiner
for clipping to the anchor where necessary. Driving directions to the meet
up point (also the exit point from the canyon) off of Angeles Crest Highway
will be provided near the time of the event.  Send request with relevant

October 9th - 11th                        Friday-Sunday            Kitadake,
Ainodake, Notoridake AKA Shirane-sanzan Trio (Japan)

 

The Shirane-sanzan trio is a set of peaks in the Minami Alps with the crown
jewel being Kitadake, Japan's second tallest mountain. As of now, trip
itinerary is pretty open, but initial thoughts are as follows. From Tokyo,
take the train to Kofu, then transfer to a bus which would take us to the
trailhead. Following day climb towards Kitadake, where we could stay at a
high altitude hut either before of after obtaining the summit. The final day
would traverse to the other two peaks, and eventually descend back to the
trailhead, where we would take a bus back to the Kofu train station. October
is the best hiking season in Japan! If interested contact Sean Casserly:
