BREAKTHROUGH CLIMBING! with PETER CROFT
If you have never reached a plateau in your rock climbing ability then you haven’t been climbing long enough. Whether you are stuck at 5.8 or aspiring to break into the 5.12’s, we all experience the roadblocks to progressing as the mind and body struggle to adopt new movements required to climb harder than we ever have before. Fitness and mileage on the rock are critical for improving skills over time, but key coaching at the right time can significantly accelerate your progression. Peter has the rare coaching ability that comes from experience to analyze a climber and communicate effectively. This clinic is simply designed to make you a better climber, while enjoying the privilege of climbing with a true legend. This clinic is presented by Sierra Mountain Guides

About Peter:
Peter Croft is one of the most accomplished climbers in the world. He is a master rock climber, free soloist, mountaineer, explorer, author, and boulderer with enough impressive feats under his belt to enshrine his legacy in climbing lore forever. He has concentrated much of his climbing career on big routes in Yosemite National Park, the High Sierra, Squamish, and British Columbia. Royal Robbins, the pioneer of the Golden Era of Yosemite Climbing, has written of Croft: “Peter has been my hero for many years, ever since he came blazing out of nowhere with his stunning free solo ascent of Astroman on Washington Column in Yosemite…That one could climb this route without resorting to aid was impressive. To do it without a rope was astonishing. But such was Peter’s level of mastery.”

MODERN ALPINISM: LIGHTER & FASTER with LIBBY SAUTER
This is an intensive clinic designed to help climbers and alpinists push their limits in order to accomplish bigger objectives in less time. The light & fast ethic and style has been pushed to extremes in recent years with speed ascents of the Eiger, done-in-a-day pushes on Himalayan Peaks, and unimaginable link-ups in Yosemite Valley. While these examples show what a light & fast approach can accomplish, they do not help us understand the more important underlying benefits of this approach. The clinic is designed to isolate and develop these more immediate benefits of the light & fast mentality with a focus on the skills and strategies that help us realize these benefits in the context of our own objectives. The clinic will cover everything from mindset to training to skills to gear. This clinic is presented by CAMP USA.

About Libby:
Libby is a former YOSAR member and trauma nurse who has recently been setting (and re-setting) records in Yosemite Valley. She currently holds the women’s speed record on the Nose of El Capitan with partner Mayan Smith-Gobat. A big-wall aficionado, Libby has climbed around the world seeking remote, big lines up striking faces and has bagged several difficult first ascents. When not tied into the sharp end, Libby can be found abroad, working in developing countries and conflict zones as a pediatric nurse.

SMOKES ROCKCOURSE: A BUTTERMILK ADVENTURE with DOUG ROBINSON
Embark upon a true Buttermilk adventure and a journey through local climbing history on this very special guided tour of Smoke's Rock Course in the Buttermilks led by climbing “golden-era” legend Doug Robinson. Smoke's Rock Course is an old-school, class 4 and 5 scramble across the Buttermilk country, first explored by Eastside climbing pioneer Smoke Blanchard. Your adventure will involve scrambling, climbing, chimneys, jumping, scooting, and hopping your way across the granite formations and should only be embarked upon by those with adequate climbing skills and those comfortable climbing 4th and easy 5th class without a rope or harness. This is a true treat, a locals secret, and some of the most fun you can have on the Eastside! This clinic is presented by Sierra Mountain Guides.

About Doug:
Doug is widely known as the father of clean climbing. In addition to developing climbing protection that allowed clean, non-destructive climbing to be possible, Doug’s essay, “The Whole Natural Art of Protection,” sparked the movement. And then his first clean ascent of the face of Half Dome, made in 1973 with Galen Rowell and Dennis Hennek, solidified the revolution when it was featured as the cover story of National Geographic magazine.

Fifty-five years of climbing experience including dozens of first ascents on ice, rock, and alpine terrain, Doug cut his teeth on Yosemite granite during the Valley’s Golden Age in the sixties. First Ascent of Dark Star on Temple Crag, the longest alpine rock climb in the Sierra. Developed Buttermilk bouldering. First ice ascents V-Notch and Lee Vining Icefall with Yvon Chouinard. First ascent Ice Nine, the hardest alpine climb in California. Second ascent of Ama Dablam (22,495′) in Nepal, 1979. This list could go on.

HUGE DAYS & A LIGHT RACK with ANNA PFAFF
Join pro climber Anna Pfaff to learn how to climb more pitches in less time. To be an expert in this field, one must operate at a high level not only in the psych department, but also in the area of efficiency. This clinic will cover the basics of making the transition from the single-pitch to the multi-pitch environment with a particular focus on the gear, systems, strategies and tactics that contribute to maximizing multi-pitch days. Specifically you will learn how to climb fast and keep moving, place minimal yet adequate protection, improve aid climbing, blocking vs swapping leads, effective transitions, and choosing your descent game plan. Additional topics covered will include training, gear, planning, and preparation. This clinic is presented by CAMP USA.

About Anna:
Anna Pfaff is a professional alpine climber from Medina, OH. Pfaff's career highlights include big wall first ascents in the Indian Himalayan Region, Karakorum, Pakistan, Patagonia, and the Andes, as well as multiple ascents on El Cap and Half Dome in the Yosemite Valley. She is an expert on moving fast in tricky terrain and the perfect guide to teach clinic participants who seek to increase their speed and perfect their game in multi-pitch environments.

SELF-RESCUE TECHNIQUES with PAUL MCSORLEY
Climbing remote routes in the mountains or on big walls can and (eventually) will lead to some dicey situations. Learn the strategies and techniques of self-rescue so that when the shit hits the fan you can react appropriately and efficiently and get down safely. This clinic will teach you the skills to turn the complex problem of self-rescue into a manageable task. You will learn how to escape the belay, tandem rappel, create improvised ascending and rappelling systems, and make the right decision when there are 'no good options'. This clinic is presented by Arc’Teryx.

About Paul:
For the last twenty years Paul has practiced all types of climbing all over the world. It doesn't matter if he's doing trad, sport, blocs, ice, mixed, alpine or aid, Paul just loves pushing his limits in the vertical world. For Paul, new routes are the most rewarding—from scrubbing a crack in Squamish to slogging up a virgin summit on the Patagonian icecap, the adventure of a first ascent never gets old. Amongst his notable first ascents, Paul has established new routes on Cerro Fitzroy, Cerro de la Mariposa, Cerro Piritas, and Aguja Innominata.

GOING BIG & GOING CONFIDENTLY with ETHAN PRINGLE
For any challenging climb, from highball bouldering to run-out gear routes, breathing, concentration, and confidence can be the difference between summit or plummet. Ethan will share his tips and tricks on breathing, climbing with confidence, and maintaining concentration in stressful climbing situations. You will learn how to think logically and climb smoothly while improving basic climbing techniques such as footwork, resting, visualization, and breathing—specifically focusing on learning to ready your breath during your warm up and synch your breath with your movement. By the end of the day you will climb at a more measured pace, with relaxed focus, with smooth and confident movements, with less fatigued muscles, and with a smile on your face! This clinic is presented by Mountain Hardwear.

About Ethan:
Ethan, considered one of the strongest and most accomplished young climbers in the world, has onsighted routes at grade 5.14, redpointed routes at grade 5.15, and bouldered problems up to grade V14. Ethan has also established new lines and problems domestically and abroad—from Yosemite to Red Rocks to South Africa to Greenland and beyond. Recently, Ethan claimed the second ascent of Chris Sharma’s epic route on Clark Mountain, Jumbo Love, rated at 5.15b as well as an early repeat of Alex Honnold’s Too Big To Flail, a highball boulder problem in the Buttermilks rated at V9 with the crux occurring some 50-60’ off the deck.

BIG WALL CLIMBING: INTRO TO THE BETTER WAY with DAVID ALLFREY
Big wall climbing doesn't have to be all hard labor and suffering. Whether you are brand new to aid climbing or Big Wall objectives or an experienced wall climber, come and learn streamlined big wall systems to help with your next adventure. In this clinic you will learn how to jumar with efficiently and with ease, how to lead aid pitches smoothly and effectively pass off gear, how to set up big wall anchors and rigging systems, and much more. This clinic will cover everything you need to know for a slow cruise up El Cap or your next "in a day" ascent of the Nose. Bring any personal big wall gear you can (daisy chains, jumars, aid ladders, etc.) This clinic is presented by Scarpa.

About David:
David Allfrey was born and raised in California but currently lives in Las Vegas. He learned to climb in the Sierra Nevada and will always think of Yosemite as a second home. Despite having climbed nearly 30 different routes on El Capitan, and almost 50 ascents in total, he prefers not to think of himself as an aid climber and instead as a jack of all trades, with a love for hard free climbing, big mountains, alpine routes, and of course, big walls. In 2014, David and partner Alex Honnold seven full-length routes up Yosemite’s El Capitan in seven days—setting four speed records in the process. David is well known for both his speed on big walls as well as his head for hard aid routes.

MULTI-PITCH MANAGEMENT with KAREN BOCKEL
Take your cragging climbing to the next level and learn how to safely and efficiently climb multi-pitch routes. This clinic will help you make efficient transitions from one pitch to the next. We will focus on rope management, anchor stances, equipment use, and belaying techniques. Along with that, we'll get into more advanced techniques, such as climbing as a party of 3, and touch on a few self-rescue tips. Solid skills make climbing more fun, especially when you’re off the deck. This clinic is designed for beginner or intermediate climbers looking to move from single to multi-pitch routes with ease and style. This clinic is presented by Chicks Climbing and Skiing.

About Karen:
Karen Bockel is one of the proud new owners of Chicks with Picks. She has been guiding for 7 years, from the cold and remote Alaska Range, the icy frozen flows of Ouray, to the hot desert of the Southwest. She has a passion for being out in the mountains, loves rock climbing and skies powder. She is an AMGA Certified Rock and Ski Guide, and Assistant Alpine Guide.
