March 15th Sunday
Mount Baldy

Climb of Mount Baldy, San Gabriel Mountains

Day hike of the highest (and the most popular) peak in the San Gabriels.
Start at Manker Flats parking area below Mount Baldy ski lifts. Adventure
Pass is still required to park here. Hike to the Sierra Club ski hut. From
here the exact route will depend on condition of the mountain and the team.
Helmet, crampons and ice axe are required along with basic snow
mountaineering skills. Participants must be in good physical condition. The
hike is about 4 miles long (one way) with 3800' of vertical elevation gain.
The summit is at 10,064'. Descend via the Baldy trail or Devils Backbone
(team decision). If interested contact Bill: bill562 at sbcglobal.net

LEADER/ORGANIZER: Bill Bazarsky

June 20th Saturday
Mount San Jacinto

Conditioning hike of Mount San Jacinto (10,834')

Start at Marion Mountain trailhead parking area above the town of Alandale
(directions will be provided if needed). Hike the well used, but steep
Marion trail through the forest of Jeffrey pine, California oak and
manzanita. The trail passes by small waterfalls and the junction with Deer
Springs trail before it arrives to Little Round Valley in about 4.1 miles
from the trailhead. From here the trail follows long switchbacks to the
junction with the PCT, past the stone shelter and on to the summit of Mt San
Jacinto. The views from the summit include San Bernadino and San Gabriel
mountains as well as the surrounding desert. Descend the same way.

The hike is about 5.5 miles long (one way) with 4600' of elevation gain.
Bring hiking boots/trail runners along with sunscreen and water/energy
snacks. Hiking poles may help. This is a conditioning hike, so ideally we
will not stop for too long (or not at all).

If interested contact Bill: bill562 at sbcglobal.net

LEADER/ORGANIZER: Bill Bazarsky
