prominent couloirs visibile from hwy 395. The plan is to attempt the St Jean

crampons are required.

June 20th Saturday
Mount San Jacinto

Conditioning hike of Mount San Jacinto (10,834')
Start at Marion Mountain trailhead parking area above the town of Alandale
(directions will be provided if needed). Hike the well-used, but steep
Marion trail through the forest of Jeffrey pine, California oak and
manzanita. The trail passes by small waterfalls and the junction with Deer
Springs trail before it arrives to Little Round Valley in about 4.1 miles
from the trailhead. From here the trail follows long switchbacks to the
junction with the PCT, past the stone shelter and on to the summit of Mt San
Jacinto. The views from the summit include San Bernadino and San Gabriel
mountains as well as the surrounding desert. Descend the same way.
The hike is about 5.5 miles long (one way) with 4600' of elevation gain.
Bring hiking boots/trail runners along with sunscreen and water/energy
snacks. Hiking poles may help. This is a conditioning hike, so ideally we
will not stop for too long (or not at all).

June 20th Saturday Mount
Pinos (Frazier Park area)

Mtn. Bike trip. This is one of SoCal's premier mtn. bike routes. The ride
consists of a uphill pedal on pavement to the top of Mount Pinos (very few
cars use this road). Then a blast down a smooth dirt trail that traverses
three sides of the mountain. The whole trip is in the high pines with a
meadow or two that you go through. A great summer workout! This trip is
open to anyone who is interested, regardless of ability. Altitude is from
approx. 6500' ft. to 8800' ft. Drive time from the San Fernando Valley is
approx. 45 minutes. If interested contact John Grisbach:

June 20th - 21st Saturday-Sunday Mt.
Shasta: Hotlum-Wintun Descent

Have you always wanted to ski or snowboard Mt. Shasta? Depending upon the
snowpack, the <http://www.summitpost.org/hotlum-wintun-ridge/165904>
Hotlum-Wintun route can offer almost 7,000 feet of backcountry turns. The
completion of this trip will be strongly tied to a favorable forecast for
corn snow conditions. The tentative plan would be to rendezvous in Mt.
Shasta city on Saturday and then make our way to the Brewer Creek trailhead
on the East side of the mountain. Our single day ascent/descent would begin
a little after midnight with the plan to summit mid-morning. The descent
would begin around noon, followed by the hike out to the vehicles, and the
drive home. Updated conditions for Mt Shasta can be found at
<http://shastaavalanche.org/> Shastaavalanche.org. Send an email with
experience/conditioning to <mailto:chris.jakober at gmail.com>
chris.jakober at gmail.com.
