CMC Members-

The following outing has just been added to the schedule:
Note: for the complete outings schedule, visit our website ( <http://californiamountaineer.net/> http://californiamountaineer.net/)

Date TBD (Hopefully early June) Friday - Sunday Thompson Peak (9,002 ft) and the Trinity Alps

Thompson Peak is the highest Peak in the Trinity Alps Wilderness, a vast assemblage of craggy granite mountains in northwestern California (Trinity Alps Wilderness is the second largest designated wilderness area in California). Thompson Peak is the second highest mountain in Northern California west of the Cascades, after 9027 feet Mount Eddy. Due to the geographical location of these mountains, they contain elements of the Cascades to the north and Sierras to the south. Their height is not impressive when compared with the Sierras, but their higher latitude and proximity to the Pacific Ocean allow for significant winter snow accumulation and the existence of a few small glaciers. Thompson Peak is usually climbed from Canyon Creek Trail, ascending the class 2-3 South Ridge from the east. This route has a 8000 feet elevation gain, and is about 10 miles one way. I would also like to look into climbing some other peaks in the area as well. Day one would consist of backpacking to camp at one of the many lakes in the drainage. Day two would be to summit Thompson Peak (as well as Hilton Peak and Caesar Peak). Day three would be an option climb of Sawtooth Peak before hiking out.
