Join the American Alpine Club's Southwest Section this spring for a great round of events--from slideshows, film premieres, and guest speakers to great volunteer opportunities--don't miss out


March 13: Pasadena, CA (TONIGHT)
Chad Kellogg Slideshow


The Caltech Alpine Club presents a special slideshow from Chad Kellogg at 7:00pm in the Hameetman Auditorium, Cahill Building, Caltech Campus (for more information including a map, click <http://americanalpineclub.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=60afa02764806293a37aacfda&id=7f467c5dbb&e=49344561f0> HERE.) The show will be on the second ascent of the <http://americanalpineclub.us1.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=60afa02764806293a37aacfda&id=1d88752b25&e=49344561f0> Corkscrew Route on Cerro Torre, with CAC hero <http://americanalpineclub.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=60afa02764806293a37aacfda&id=193d6d6e2a&e=49344561f0> Colin Haley. The first ascent by "fair means," without using the infamous Maestri bolts, this was Chad's third attempt at the SE Ridge during an amazing weather window, and he learned from each push. Join us for an evening of great stories, amazing photos, and some snacks, and beer! Best of all, the show is FREE!


March 20th: Las Vegas, NV
Viva la Vie with Jonathan Siegrist


Join Jonathan Siegrist and the Las Vegas Climber's Liaison Council as they present his film, Viva la Vie! The show starts at 7:30pm at the Quonset Hut (1 Village Dr., Blue Diamond, NV) There will be refreshments and a killer raffle! Admission is FREE but all donations are welcome and will go towards the Red Rock Restop2 project, keeping Red Rock less poopy since 2011! Don't miss out!


March 26: Pasadena, CA
Banff Mountain Film Festival & AAC/CAC Mixer


Join the American Alpine Club and the Caltech Alpine Club as they present this years Banff Mountain Film Festival. There will be a pre-show reception hosted by the American Alpine Club starting at 6:00, followed by the Banff presentation at 7:30. The event is taking place at the Beckman Auditorium on Caltech Campus (332 S Michigan Ave, Pasadena, CA 91125) Join the tribe as we have a beer together before the show during the AAC/CAC Mixer (FREE) held outside the Auditorium! Tickets to the show are $12 pre-show or $15 at the door. March 30: Joshua Tree, CA
J-Tree Cleanup and Climber Reception


Join the American Alpine Club Southwest Section for this spring's Joshua Tree Cleanup and Climber reception featuring a free presentation by professional climber Matt Segal!

We will be meeting at 8:00am at Climber's Coffee in Hidden Valley Campground in Joshua Tree National Park for free coffee and a free volunteer breakfast. At 9:30 come get your hands dirty as we move to the Hall of Horrors to do some restoration work with the National Park Service. We'll finish up with plenty of time to pull on the rock!

Finally, join us once again at 6:00pm for our evening climbers reception with FREE pizza from Pie for the People, a FREE raffle, and a FREE slideshow by Matt Segal! The evening event is taking place at Furstworld Studio, 8528 Desert Shadows Rd., Joshua Tree, CA.

If you come to volunteer you can get a free pass into the park on March 30th! We will also have limited free camping in Joshua Tree for the weekend! April 4: Las Vegas, NV
Pre-Rendezvous Bash & Slideshow


Come to Red Rock Climbing Center at 6:00pm (8201 W Charleston Blvd Las Vegas, NV 89117) for their Annual Pre-Red Rock Rendezvous Bash with food and drinks, a great slideshow, and a absolutely killer raffle! This event pulls in the whole tribe from the Las Vegas Area and is an absolute blast! Don't miss out!


April 5-7: Las Vegas, NV
Red Rock Rendezvous


Join the American Alpine Club in attending THE LARGEST OUTDOOR CLIMBING FESTIVAL IN THE COUNTRY! This massive climbing festival, hosted by our partner Mountain Gear and now celebrating it's 10th year, is taking place in Las Vegas this April 5-7. The festival hosts clinics taught by professional athletes, an extensive vendor village slinging all the latest gear--often at a great discount--not to mention live music, free beer, and all other things that are good!

April 6 & 7: Las Vegas, NV
Kraft Mountain Clean-Up & BBQ


The Las Vegas Climbers Liaison Council is hosting the Kraft Mountain Clean Up to coincide with the Red Rock Rendezvous. RRR participants will be joining us from 10-12 pm on both days, then on Sunday April 7 we'll be hosting a post clean-up BBQ and raffle at the Red Springs Picnic Area for local volunteers who aren't able to attend the rendezvous. The BBQ will be from Noon -2p.m. Our goal for the project will include the removal of chalk and other waste from the Calaman Boulder (a protected cultural site), removal of trash and waste from the entire boulder field, and maintenance of the main trail system to include obliteration of spider trails. We'll also be making an exact record of the amount of waste and trash picked up, to present a proposal to the BLM for the addition of a trash can at the parking lot. (Currently there is no trash receptacle in the Kraft area.) We hope you can make it!


April 10: Pasadena, CA
John All & the Climber Science Program


Join the American Alpine Club Southwest Section and the Caltech Alpine Club in hosting a special presentation by Climber/Scientist John All at 6:30pm in Guggenheim 101 on the Caltech Campus, Pasadena, CA. Dr. John All will be speaking about the Climber Science program, a partner of the American Alpine Club. For the last two years climber scientists have been spending the summer in Peru obtaining dirt, snow and ice samples to study changes in climate. Climbers play an important role in accessing test sites found at higher elevations and amid more technical terrain. Come learn about this amazing program, their studies, findings, and how to get involved!


April 20: Bishop, CA
Volcanic Tablelands Adopt-a-Crag


Join the American Alpine Club, the Access Fund, and the Bishop Area Climbers Coalition as they get their hands dirty taking care of the Volcanic Tablelands, home to the Happy and Sad Boulders. The service project will run on Saturday April 20th from 9:00am to roughly 12:00pm. The American Alpine Club will provide a free volunteer breakfast before the work begins. Come join the tribe and put in some work to help take care of our public lands! More details TBA.


April 24: Pasadena, CA
Incan Odyssey Premiere w/ Abbey Smith


Join the AAC Southwest Section and the Caltech Alpine Club in a very special premiere of the Incan Odyssey--the 2012 journey of Marmot athletes Abbey Smith, Pete Takeda, and Paige Claassen to the Cordillera Blanca in Peru to discover untapped rock and unclimbed mountain faces at extreme altitude. We will be having a special reception with free libations at 6:30pm before the show starts at 7:30pm. After the show, there will be a special Q&A session with athlete Abbey Smith!

Join our partners at Vital Climbing Gym (29990 Technology Dr. Suite 22, Murrieta, CA 92563) for their Annual Cinco de Mayo Bouldering Competition on Saturday May 4th! There will be raffles and prizes and partying and competing and great times! More information TBA.
