You have the opportunity to comment on this plan.

Currently, no new fixed anchors (i.e. no new routes) can be placed in wilderness areas and replacing existing bolts by hand requires a permit. We need your help to advocate for the appropriate use of fixed anchors in Red Rock wilderness. The Access Fund is advocating for a wilderness fixed anchor policy that allows for:

* Only hand drilling
* Replacement of old bolts 1:1 without prior approval
* Placement of new bolts without prior approval to connect terrain otherwise protectable with removable anchors and for safety in descending and emergencies
* A permit or approval system to be developed if the BLM determines through research and monitoring that it is necessary to protect wilderness characteristics

Now is the time to act. The BLM is seeking input from the public to guide the planning process and this is an ideal opportunity to advocate for appropriate fixed anchor use.
