The AAC, National Park Service, and Friends of Joshua Tree are teaming up to present: Spring Cling 2012! We will be meeting at the Hidden Valley Campground for Climber’s Coffee from 8am-10am followed by a stewardship service project taking place at Old Woman and Intersection Rock from 10:30am-2:30pm. Please come and VOLUNTEER! Later in the evening there will be a FREE slideshow from climbing photographer Damon Corso at 6:30pm at the Starlite. (61738 29 Palms Hwy – 1 block west of Park Blvd.) There will be a raffle of great swag and discounted pizza provided by Pie In The Sky. A group campsite for volunteers will be provided as well as free entrance into the park! Please contact SWS Chair Jim Pinter-Lucke (jlucke at cmc.edu) for more details.

The American Alpine Club is partnering with the Caltech Alpine Club to present a pre-Banff Mountain Film Festival mixer/reception on March 27th. The reception will begin at the Beckman Institute Courtyard, by the Gene Pool at Caltech from 5:30pm and will last until 7:30pm. Immediately following the reception, the Banff Mountain Film Festival will begin. Beverages for those 21+ will be provided FREE of charge by the Eagle Rock Brewing Company. There will also be snacks and non-alcoholic beverage options. Come out for some FREE drinks and fun mingling before seeing one of the greatest mountain film events of the year!

There will be a pre-Red Rock Rendezvous BBQ and Slideshow (speaker TBA) occurring at the Red Rock Climbing Center in Las Vegas, NV. The BBQ will begin at 5:00pm and the slideshow will start at 7:30pm. Come out and have a good time before the kick-off of the largest outdoor climbing festival in the country!

Red Rock Rendezvous is the country’s largest outdoor climbing festival. Held in the Red Rock escarpment 15 miles west of Las Vegas, Nevada the event supports an attendance of over 1,000 individuals. Clinics taught by world-class athletes, climbers, and guides offer instruction to vertical adventurers of all abilities–from beginners to the most advanced. Topics cover all things climbing and range from Intro to Bouldering to Advanced Big Wall Rigging and Self Rescue; from Sport Climbing to Mental Training; from Footwork and Technique to Women’s Specific Climbing to Offwidth Crack Climbing. This is the one climbing event not to be missed!
