Matt (or anyone else)-

Regarding Mt. Russell, is the descent into the south face, right side easy to find? And what is the best route back to Whitney Portal from the bottom of that route?

Thanks,

Sam

Sam,

You can also descend the South Face, Right side for a loop.

Sam,

East Ridge of Mt. Russell.: Whitney Portal, North Fork of Lone Pine Creek, Russell-Carillon Pass, East Ridge and return by the same route. Third class, a little exposed, but not steep, great views, relatively short approach.

Hi fellow CMC member-

I will be driving to the Sierras from SoCal on a Saturday in October, sleeping near the trailhead, climbing up and down something on Sunday, and driving back to SoCal that night. I might be solo, so I don't want the difficulty to exceed 3rd class. What would you recommend (other than Whitney)?

Thanks,
