Blow to California State Parks Softened

Last month we asked California residents to take action to help save
climbing in California's state parks from drastic budget cuts that
threatened closure. The proposed $70 million budget would have closed an
estimated 220 California State Parks. Access Fund members and supporters
sent over 1,000 letters to state representatives urging them to support
state park funding. On July 28, the proposed cut was significantly reduced
to $14 million-less than 10 percent of the original proposal. The estimated
number of future park closures has now fallen to around 100. The California
State Parks administration has announced it will release a list of closures
sometime after Labor Day. Thanks to everyone who took the time to write in
on this important issue.
