Rooted School Student Earns Over $2 Million in Scholarships

Jaron Barnes to Attend Loyola University New Orleans on Full-Ride, Runs His Own Clothing Brand

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Rooted School New Orleans (RSNO), a nationally recognized open-enrollment 9-12 grade high school, proudly announces that senior Jaron Barnes has been awarded over $2 million in scholarships from multiple colleges and universities across the country.


Jaron has chosen to attend Loyola University New Orleans in the fall, where he received a full-ride scholarship and plans to major in Marine Biology.  “Loyola has always been my dream school, and I am so excited to go there!” said Jaron. “Earning over $2 million in scholarships shows me that all the late nights, all the challenges—it was worth it. Rooted gave me the space to grow as a student and as an entrepreneur, and now I get to live my dream at Loyola. I hope my story shows other students that anything is possible when you believe in yourself and stay focused.” 

Known for his creativity and entrepreneurial drive, Jaron has long demonstrated a passion for music and fashion. He began performing in Mardi Gras parades at a young age and later rose to the role of drum major. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jaron launched his own clothing brand, Xudus Clothing, LLC. “Xudus empowers individuals to trust in their own journey and be unafraid of where it may take them,” Jaron explained.

In addition to his business pursuits, Jaron also interns at Baldwin & Company, a beloved local bookstore and cultural hub in New Orleans. 

Jaron will graduate from Rooted School @ SUNO on June 6.  “At Rooted, Jaron has really thrived,” said Rooted CEO Kailin Karpinski. “He’s continued to build on the entrepreneurial spirit he sparked during COVID, while excelling academically. Colleges across the country saw what we’ve always known—Jaron is an extraordinary young man with a bright future.”
