Young Audiences Charter Schools to Host YACS Fest on March 29

Free event will feature arts-integrated projects, bounce houses, face painting, arts & crafts, food, music, and more!

New Orleans, LA – Young Audiences Charter Schools (YACS), an open enrollment, arts-integrated school network in New Orleans and Jefferson Parishes, is excited to announce YACS Fest, a free community event welcoming prospective students, current YACS families and community members. YACS Fest will take place on Saturday, March 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Young Audiences Charter School Burmaster Campus located at 1000 Burmaster St. in Gretna. Admission is free and open to the public.

Attendees can look forward to a vibrant array of activities, including arts-integrated projects, bounce houses, face painting, arts & crafts, and live music. All YACS campuses will be represented with band, dance, and drum performances, along with black box theater presentations. Culinary delights prepared by YACS culinary arts students will also be available.

"YACS Fest is a celebration of creativity and learning," said Young Audiences Charter Schools CEO Ricki Nutik. "Our arts-integrated approach to education fosters engagement, supports academic achievement, and provides a platform for students to explore their interests and abilities. We welcome families to come experience this at YACS Fest."

Young Audiences Charter School's arts-integrated curriculum is rooted in the latest research demonstrating the value of arts in education. Arts Integration combines artistic expression with core academic subjects, enhancing educational outcomes and student behavior. The approach not only engages students in learning but also encourages parental involvement, a crucial aspect of education.

Opened in 2013, Young Audiences Charter Schools are open enrollment, arts-integrated charter schools operating in Jefferson and Orleans Parish on three campuses.  Recent research shows that students at schools with an arts-integrated curriculum scored higher on standardized tests and academic measures than those at other types of schools, including academic magnet schools. (PAIR, 2013) Additionally, students involved in the arts have better attendance, fewer behavior referrals, increased class participation, and are more likely to report a love of learning.
