33 Lake Forest Charter School Students Place in 2025 Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair
Lake Forest Elementary Charter School (LFC) had 45 students participating in the 2025 Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair (GNOSEF) at Tulane University. 33 students placed in various categories and 15 of the 33 will move on to the Louisiana State Science and Engineering Fair on March 25, announced Chief Executive Officer Mardele Early.
The 15 students who will participate in the state fair: 8th graders Ja’Nyah Anderson, 1st place in Chemistry; Rachael Ayler, 1st Place in Environmental Engineering; James Batiste, 1st Place in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology; Shayera Bishop, 2nd Place in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology; Caleb Chaney, 2nd Place in Energy: Sustainable Materials and Design; Kaydence Guillory, 1st Place in Microbiology; Dallas Harrell, 1st Place in Biomedical and Health Sciences and Engineering; Osayi Igbinoghene, 2nd Place in Environmental Engineering and Isabella Nguyen, 2nd Place in Embedded Systems and Robotics and Intelligent Machines.
7th graders are Sydney Barnes, 2nd Place in Chemistry; Ava Branch, 2nd Place in Earth and Environmental Sciences; Ava Cao, 2nd Place in Engineering Technology: Statics and Dynamics; Tyla Brown, 2nd Place in Mathematics and Systems Software; Bao-Long Truong, 1st Place in Behavioral and Social Sciences; and Kevin Burns, 1st Place in Plant Sciences.
Other students who placed at the GNOSEF were: 8th graders Rychon Garrett, 1st Place U.S. Metric Association (National); Brooklyn Powell, 4th Place in Animal Sciences; 1st Place: Office of Naval Research (National); Jeanni Dinh, 4th Place in Animal Sciences and Survey Submission Award (Local); Jaya Martin, 4th Place in Behavioral and Social Sciences and 1st Place: Brain Institute Award (Local); Cameron Guillen, 4th Place in Earth and Environmental Sciences; Eric Nguyen, 4th Place in Mathematics and Systems Software; Sofia Aidoo, 3rd Place in Biomedical and Health Sciences and Biomedical Engineering; Duy Quat Benjamin Truong,3rd Place in Embedded Systems and Robotics and Intelligent Machines; Vanik Walters, 3rd Place in Earth and Environmental Sciences; Ayden Badon, 3rd Place in Mathematics and Systems Software; Zoe Dabney, 3rd Place in Microbiology; Riley Bruton, 3rd Place in Plant Sciences, Landon Le, 3rd Place in Physics and Astronomy and 1st Place in U.S. Air Force (National).
Several students won special awards sponsored by various local, regional, and national STEM organizations: 8th graders Rachael Ayler, 1st Place: Association for Women’s Geoscientists and 1st Place: U.S. Agency for International Development (National); Ja’Nyah Anderson, 1st Place: Dorothy Van Lue Habeeb Award; Dallas Harrell, 1st Place: Albert F.W. Habeeb M.D. Scholarship and Award; Caleb Chaney, 1st Place in American Welding Society (Local); Landon, 1st Place in U.S. Air Force (National); Jaya Martin, 1st Place: Brain Institute Award (Local); Jeanni Dinh, Survey Submission Award (Local); Brooklyn Powell,1st Place: Office of Naval Research (National); and Rychon Garrett, 1st Place U.S. Metric Association (National). 7th grade awards include: Sydney Barnes, 1st Place American Institute of Chemical Engineers (National) and the Grand Award: Science Fair Project Title: Testing Heat Protectants on African-American Hair; Ava Branch, 2nd Place in Earth and Environmental Sciences and 1st Place: Office of Naval Research (National); Samuel Forman, 4th Place in Energy: Sustainable Materials and Design and 1st Place: Broadcom Coding with Commitment (National).
Several students received first place in the Thermo Fisher Junior Innovator’s Challenge: 8th graders Ja’Nyah Anderson, Rachael Ayler, Kaydence Guillory, Dallas Harrell, and James Batiste and 7th graders Bao-Long Truong and Kevin Burns. The Thermo Fisher Junior Innovator’s Challenge is a national competition for 6th-8th grade students where the top 10% of participating projects are nominated to compete in the competition in the Fall.
Lake Forest also received the GNOSEF Middle School Award which is presented to schools that have a minimum of ten projects that compete in the Junior Division and also recognizes the successful participation in the science fair. This is Lake Forest’s fourth year receiving this distinctive award.
Finally, LFC recognizes both Ms. Allison Rafferty and Ms. Marla Watts for winning the Junior Division Star Teacher Award. This award is given to teachers who have gone the extra mile to support their students in the Junior Division. This is Ms. Watts’s 7th time winning the award and she was also given the Brown Foundation Teacher Award for 2025 GNOSEF participants with 10+ projects in Junior or Senior Division.
