POSSE Scholarship Winner Jansen Zayas
The New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA), an open admissions public charter school located in Algiers, adjacent to the Marine Forces Reserve national headquarters in Federal City, proudly announces that Cadet Second Lieutenant Jansen Zayas is a Villanova University Posse Foundation Scholarship winner.
This is the third year a NOMMA Cadet will utilize the Posse Scholarship to attend Villanova, where Cadet Zayas will study Biology or Biomedical Sciences for four years of study, at a value exceeding $300,000.
“We are incredibly proud of Cadet Zayas for consistently demonstrating exceptional leadership, character, and academic excellence throughout his time at NOMMA. We are confident he will continue to inspire pride in his family and community as he embarks on his journey at Villanova,” said NOMMA Principal Alexis Long.
Cadet Jansen has received many academic, extracurricular and Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) awards and accolades during his years of study at NOMMA, where he enrolled in 8th grade. These achievements include promotion to Bravo Company Commander, a cadet leadership role; soccer team captain, Student Council President, and National Honor Society Vice-President. While Cadet Jansen created a non-profit, GenTech, to educate senior citizens about the vast world of technology. Principal Long said Cadet Jansen is expected to graduate May 17 near the top of his class. He lives in Metairie and is the son of Gloria Sierra and Alejandro Zayas.
