NEW ORLEANS HIGH SCHOOL AND LOCAL EMPLOYERS TO OFFER MARITIME DAY ON TUESDAY, FEB. 25

 

New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA) will host its third Annual Maritime Day on Tuesday, February 25, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its campus, 425 O’Bannon St. in Federal City/Algiers.

The event will feature over 30 maritime industry partners, providing NOMMA's upperclassmen with hands-on experiences and insights into the diverse career opportunities within the maritime sector. Through interactive activities, students will explore the industry’s impact on the New Orleans community and learn about potential career pathways available after graduation.

"This event is a tremendous hands-on opportunity for our cadets to learn about the different careers available both locally and nationally in the maritime industry. It also allows our school to strengthen partnerships with an industry that plays a vital role in our region," said NOMMA Commandant Chris Schlafer, Colonel, USMC, Ret.

NOMMA Principal Alexis Long emphasized the significance of the event, stating, "We host a College and Career Day each fall to introduce cadets to a variety of future pathways, but we highlight the maritime industry each spring because it is central to our mission and the economic landscape of New Orleans."

NOMMA, an open-admission, top-rated public charter high school, is expanding its footprint in Federal City. Serving students across the greater New Orleans metro area, NOMMA requires all students to participate in the Marine Corps JROTC program and offers both college preparatory and career and technical education diploma pathways. The academy also provides Advanced Placement courses, dual enrollment opportunities, support for diverse learners, and participation in Class 4A athletics.
