The Greater New Orleans Collaborative of Charter Schools (GNOCCS) Announces Dr. Sean Wilson as New Executive Director

Wilson is one of the founding charter school members of GNOCCS

New Orleans, LA – The Greater New Orleans Collaborative of Charter Schools (GNOCCS) Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Sean Wilson as its new Executive Director, effective immediately.

“We are thrilled to welcome home Sean as our new Executive Director,” said GNOCCS President Dr. Michelle Douglas. “He is an exceptional leader with a visionary approach and years of educational experience. We look forward to working closely with him as we strengthen and expand our mission to empower charter schools to more effectively and efficiently serve their students.”

The Collaborative is a network of 13 community-based public charter school operators dedicated to  rebuilding and revitalizing the metropolitan area through quality education and parental choice. Dr. Wilson is a founding member of GNOCCS, having served as Chief Executive Officer of the International School of Louisiana, one of the first public schools to reopen on the eastbank of Orleans Parish following the 2005 Hurricane Katrina and subsequent levee failure.

Dr. Ken Ducote, who has served as GNOCCS Executive Director for a decade, will work with Dr. Wilson to ensure a smooth transition, until his retirement in January, 2025.

Dr. Wilson brings over 20 years of strategic leadership experience in the education and non-profit sectors. After serving as CEO of ISL, he moved on to serve as CEO of the International High School of New Orleans and then was appointed Superintendent at Westlake Academy in Texas. More recently, as Founder of Manoah Consulting, Wilson has coached professionals in transformational change management, financial stability, and building high-performing teams.

Wilson holds a Doctorate in Education from Xavier University, as well as a Masters and Bachelors in Business Administration from the University of New Orleans. Additionally, he has earned certifications from Harvard University in Urban School Leadership, the Program on Negotiations, and the Art of Leadership; Georgetown University in Certified School Finance; and certifications from Maxwell Leadership as a Certified Team Executive Leader.

On his appointment, Dr. Wilson said, “I am excited to lead such an important educational institution as GNOCCS. Having witnessed first-hand the incredible benefits the Collaborative provides for charter schools, I am eager to elevate the organization to the next level. As a Founding Member of GNOCCS, I am deeply passionate about its mission to reinvigorate quality education through shared learning and advocacy. My background in leading similar educational collaborations uniquely positions me to advance GNOCCS’s vision, ensuring that all families in the Greater New Orleans area have access to schools where their children can truly thrive.”

For nearly 18 years, GNOCCS member schools have met regularly to promote cutting-edge programs, support progressive school policies, and advocate for single-operator community-based charters. GNOCCS not only strengthens its member schools, but also networks with other affiliated Louisiana charter organizations to enhance capacity building and teacher recruitment, according to Dr. Ducote.
GNOCCS Member Schools include: Audubon Charter Schools, Benjamin Franklin Elementary School, Benjamin Franklin High School, Discovery Schools, Einstein Charter Schools, Hynes Charter Schools, International High School of New Orleans, International School of Louisiana, Morris Jeff Community School, New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School ("Sci High"), The Willow School, and Young Audiences Charter School.

The Greater New Orleans Collaborative of Charter Schools – or GNOCCS – is a network of community-based public charter schools dedicated to rebuilding and reinvigorating the metropolitan area through quality education and parental choice. As some of the first schools to open their doors after Hurricane Katrina, the founding members of GNOCCS helped clear the path for the emergence of independent public charters locally and regionally. GNOCCS advocates for the authority, accountability, and resources necessary to meet the needs of children and their schools, and the Collaborative strives to build the capacity of charter schools to more effectively and efficiently serve their students.  GNOCCS works not only to strengthen its member schools but also to network with other affiliated Louisiana charter organizations in capacity building and teacher recruitment. GNOCCS is the “DBA” of the Louisiana Charter School Alliance, which is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation registered in Louisiana.
