Benjamin Franklin High School Announces New Boys’ Soccer Head Coach

NEW ORLEANS (June 19, 2024) – Benjamin Franklin High School is excited to announce that Chase Bagwill has taken over as the head coach of the boys’ soccer team.

Bagwill, a 2008 Jesuit alumnus, served as coach of BFHS’ JV boys’ soccer team and assistant varsity coach last year, when BFHS made it to the state championship.

BFHS Athletic Director Chrissa Hailey said: “I’m thrilled to have Coach Bagwill stepping into this role. He already knows the team and the other coaching staff, so I know we aren’t even going to miss a beat this season!”

The boys’ soccer program at Ben Franklin has a long and proud legacy, with two state championships, 2004 and 2014, under Coach José Ferrand, who retired in 2023 and was inducted into the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Soccer Hall of Fame this year. The boys’ soccer team also made it to the state finals in 2023.

Coach Bagwill has deep respect for the team’s history and plans to try to bring home the championship this year – “third time’s the charm!” he said with a grin.

“I’m delighted to be returning to Franklin as the varsity coach this season,” he added. “I’d particularly like to thank former Head Coach Joe Roberts and returning Assistant Coach Rene Marroquin for all their guidance, dedication, and family-like support. Lastly, thanks to our Athletic Director Chrissa Hailey and our new principal, Dr. Kendall McManus-Thomas, for trusting me to lead this terrific program forward.”
