NEW ORLEANS HIGH SCHOOL AND LOCAL EMPLOYERS PARTNER TO OFFER MARITIME DAY ON MARCH 5

New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA) is hosting its Second Annual Maritime Day on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, at the NOMMA Fitness Center, 2220 Constitution St., New Orleans.

Thirty Maritime Industry partners will showcase a wide range of career opportunities to NOMMA's upperclassmen, who will participate in various activities to learn about the maritime industry, its impact on the New Orleans community, and existing opportunities after graduation.
“This event is a tremendous opportunity for our cadets to learn about the different careers offered locally and even nationally in the maritime industry.  It enables our school to continue to develop partnerships with an industry that makes an enormous impact on our region,” said NOMMA Commandant Chris Schlafer, Colonel, USMC, Ret.

Alexis Long, the principal at NOMMA, mentioned that this is the second time the school has highlighted this partnership with the maritime industry. She explained, "We have a College and Career Day every Fall to show our cadets different paths for their future, but we spotlight the maritime industry each Spring because it is central to New Orleans' economy. Our school doesn't just prepare cadets for college or jobs; we also teach them about leadership and character. Our cadets graduate ready to make a positive difference to our community.”

NOMMA, which is expanding its footprint in Federal City, is a top-rated, open-admission public charter high school for all students in the greater New Orleans metro area. NOMMA requires every student to become a Marine Corps JROTC cadet and offers both college preparatory and career and technical education diploma pathways.  Additionally, NOMMA offers Advanced Placement courses, dual enrollment courses, support for diverse learners, as well as participation in Class 4A athletics.
